Coping with Life

Life is hard.

It is so hard to constantly fight against something that is forever tearing you down.

When something bad happens and you feel sad, angry, betrayed etc take a moment to acknowledge how you feel.

I realise that sounds strange, but it is so common to try block it out, to "keep busy" or turn to alcohol, drugs to try numb that feeling.

Believe me I understand why, but that doesn't make the feeling go away all it does is delay it.

It'll be back the next morning when you wake up.

So just sit down in a quiet room and actually acknowledge how you feel.

No judgement,

Don't get angry at yourself or put yourself down.

It's easy to say "You should be happy" and try snap about of it but it's not that simple.

You feel this way for a reason.

You are allowed to feel this way.

Take some deep breathes and as strange as it sounds embrace that feeling.

Don't make it worse, don't try make it better, just in the moment feel how you are feeling.

Cry if you need too.

Scream if you need too.

You have the right to do this and by creating this safe place you can express it.

Take as much or as little time as you need.

It is not fair what has happened to you but by having this moment once or twice a day will stop you bottling it up and allow you continue in your day.

This is something I discovered when Charlotte died and it really helped, and I've been using it ever since when life knocks you down so you feel strong enough to pick yourself back up.

I hope it helps someone else.
